What are foot orthotics and how do they work?
Problems often arise when the bones and joints of the feet lose their natural position. This causes a weakness of the foot and prevents it from working normally. Eventually this will lead to pain and discomfort.
Foot orthotics are specially designed shoe inserts, which help restore the natural position of the foot. The type of orthotic we need depends on the type of foot we have and how the foot is changing position. By careful selection of the correct orthotic the foot is able to return to its natural position and function. This will prevent damaging compensation in other joints, muscles and ligaments and reduce pain. It is always important to address other factors that may be contributing to symptoms, e.g. muscle tightness, joint flexibility and reduced awareness of the position of our joints.
