Why try Physiotherapy for Pain?

Physiotherapists are trained to do detailed musculoskeletal assessment, diagnose and treat their clients according to the condition. It is extremely important to find out what our clients functional and physical limitations are after which physiotherapist and client together set goals.

At our clinic our initial assessment is 40 minutes where our clients have their physiotherapist undivided attention and the follow up appointments are usually 20 minutes. Treatments depend on the problem at hand and can range from massage/myofascial therapy/soft tissue mobilization, manipulation, acupuncture, mobilization, electrotherapy (Ultrasound, laser, interferential therapy and TENS), specific stretches and strengthening exercises or detailed rehab programs that can be executed at home or in the gym.

A very important part of treatment is teaching the client strategies of self management of their problem. Some strategies are physical ones such as using Bakballs to loosen up stiff joints in the spine, Franklin balls to free up tight trigger points in the muscles, teaching self massage and the correct use of ice or heat.

Other strategies would include assessment of workstations whether they are at home or at work and advising clients on the best posture and ergonomic layout to minimize the effect of bad posture on their problem. It is crucial to provide our clients with information regarding aggravating and easing factors as this helps to control and alleviate pain.
